Aloha Stadium in Hawaii used to be the host of this AFC-NFC Pro Bowl. That is no longer the case since the game is going to be found at the much less desirable location of Orlando for its fourth straight season January the week before the Super Bowl.
But fans in Hawaii will get to see yet another sort of meaningless football this Saturday when the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams face off in Week 2 of the preseason in Aloha Stadium. It is the first NFL exhibition game at Hawaii’s largest outdoor arena since 1976. Playing unique locations during the preseason is nothing new for Dallas underneath owner Jerry Jones as the Cowboys also have played exhibition matches from London, Toronto, Tokyo, Mexico City and Monterrey. Guess they aren’t simply America’s Team.
For what it’s worth, and I’d say , the Rams defeat the visiting Cowboys in the Divisional Round of last season’s playoffs, 30-22. CJ Anderson rushed for 123 yards and 2 scores and Todd Gurley 115 yards and a touchdown. Jared Goff threw for 186 yards. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown. You won’t see any of these men on Saturday. Anderson is currently with the Detroit Lions. Rams coach Sean McVay clearly doesn’t provide a **t all about the preseason because he likes to rest his key guys to ensure health for the regular season. So, no Goff or even Gurley (not traveling to Hawaii to save wear and tear his knee) or two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald or possibly one starter will playwith. The Rams are 4-5 straight up and ATS under McVay in exhibition matches after losing last week 14-3 in Oakland (that you probably saw highlights off on”Hard Knocks”).
Blake Bortles started that game for the Rams and has been 3-for-8 for 50 yards and is anticipated to start again Saturday although probably not play a lot. The Rams should give the majority of the quarterback slides to young players John Wolford and Brandon Allen. Those two are battling for the No. 3 job. Backup running back Malcolm Brown also did not play last week or is anticipated to all this preseason. When it comes to the Rams, simply assume no one you’ve heard of would perform.
Dallas coach Jason Garrett obviously doesn’t take care of the preseason, either, according to his 12-22 career straight-up record. The Cowboys were winless in the 2018 preseason and then lost 17-9 at San Francisco last Saturday. Quarterback Dak Prescott failed play a series and led the group to a field goal, finishing 4-for-4 for 23 yards. I’d guess he plays with a string Saturday. Cooper Rush and Mike White will see most of the time since they battle to win the No. 2 project. Rush, an undrafted free agent, has been with the Cowboys because 2017. White, a fifth-round choice in 2018, was around the 53-man roster last season but was inactive for each game.
Elliott, of course, stays away from the club demanding a contract expansion. There. One of several other Cowboys who wont play make the trip: Zack Martin, Tyrone Crawford, DeMarcus Lawrence and Byron Jones.
With the holding basically everybody back, can’t help but slim Dallas here.
