The Kansas City Chiefs have signed offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz to a yearlong expansion, representative Mike McCartney announced Wednesday. The team made the news .
The expansion is worth $11.255 million, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed, making him the second-highest paid directly tackle.
Schwartz had two years left on the $33 million contract he signed with the Chiefs in 2016 and was set to make $6 million in base salary in 2019 and 2020. The one-year extension keeps him K.C. through the 2021 campaign.

The 30-year-old is the league’s leading right handle and among the overall blockers in the NFL. Pro Football Focus graded Schwartz as their No. 4 overall tackle in 2018. Boasting stellar toes and stone palms, Schwartz can be a bull in the run game and is a wall mounted in pass protection.
Through his first seven seasons, Schwartz has been a picture of health, never missing a start in 112 regular-season games. In reality, he never misses a play, exceeding the 7,000 career that is consecutive snaps mark in November of 2018. Following four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, the Chiefs swiped the top right handle in 2016.
