Two weeks at the Open de Espana, another rare feat was attained by Ross Fisher after his historic albatross in Wentworth since back-to-back eagles were made by him near the conclusion of his next round.
Fisher earned a BMW sports car worth over #130,000 once he holed out with a four-iron to get a sensational albatross-two on the final hole in the BMW PGA Championship, capping a back-nine 28 about the West Course prior to heading on to finish outside the top 30 after a disappointing 76 over the previous day.
The Englishman needs a strong finish to the season to keep his European Tour cardarriving in Madrid ranked 118th in the Race to Dubai, and he had been flirting with all the cut line when he made three straight bogeys to slip to a below with six holes to play with.
Fisher then drilled into a beautiful, and he managed to scramble a fantastic par in the first time and rattled at the putt to an eagle-three, and also much better was to follow in the next.
Fishers wedge from the middle of the fairway pitched just past the pin and then spun into the cup for a different eagle, his fourth of the tournament, and he can now go into the weekend nicely placed around five under after rounds of 69 and 68.
I left a excellent up-and-down on six which was key, then I hit a lovely drive and a really nice soft four-iron in the next, explained Fisher, who hasnt had a top-10 end because the Nedbank Golf Challenge in November last year.
I did not realise how close it was before I saw Mr (John E) Morgan put his hands up so that I knew it was great and also to roll that in was really, really fine – my third among this week.
Then to hit this shot on the subsequent hole and then back it up with another eagle was nice. I was flag hunting on the past there trying to go in a row! I would be surprised if I have done back to back eagles although I know Ive had a great run of birdies in a row.
To have four this week, and that I came quite close to my second albatross in three weeks, it literally ended four or three inches out of moving in. 2 eagles yesterday on the par fivesthey were kind to me, and to create another one and then hole a shooter it was a wonderful day.
See the video over to see how Fisher propelled himself up the Open de Espana leaderboard with back eagles…
