Sebastian Vettel admits Monza is the place Ferrari must”overdeliver” because they bid to end their success drought in their home grand prix.
The last Italian GP success in 2010, when Fernando Alonso acquired of the Scuderia, means they have gone eight races – matching their longest winless run.
But armed with the quickest car in a direct line of F1 2019 for the fastest circuit, on which cars average greater than 160mph of the season, Vettel is optimistic that the winners of last week GP are ready.
“We have been on the podium a few times, but not at the top step,” explained Vettel, who has finished second once and third twice at Monza since linking Ferrari four years back.

“it is a big thing. It’s the race to us, no doubt. It’s a weekend. Yesterday we saw the passion [at an occasion in Milan] that there is and I’m positive that we’ll see during the weekend. I’m convinced it will give a boost to us.
“Here is the time to overdeliver and it is a big weekend. Hopefully we could make it count this time. We’ve got a opportunity, so we’ll see. We’re prepared.”
However, Vettel warned:”We are not the obvious favourites. There are indications we aware of this put us in a good position, but I think we have to be sensible and carefully positive.
“One lap is 1 thing but there are a good deal of laps on Sunday. Plus, the weather – plus, plus, plus…”
Even with Ferrari enjoying a edge that was qualifying Charles Leclerc still ended just one second ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the race’s close – while Vettel slipped behind the Silver Arrows into fourth.
“We have observed the tendency that at qualifying we seem to get a bit of an advantage on those types of tracks, whereas in the race that which moves very close together,” additional Vettel, who said that Ferrari have”some facts and some answers” for his car’s troubles at Spa.
“They [Mercedes] were very quick last weekend, therefore I expect the major challenge to be taking care of the automobile and finding the right setup and equilibrium in the automobile to feel comfortable to extract the max. I guess it’s going to be quite tight.”
Leclerc added:”Mercedes was quite impressive with their race pace.”
Leclerc’more confident’ after first win
At the circuit believed the house of the Tifosi, Leclerc arrives as a Ferrari driver for the very first time from securing his maiden Grand Prix win, fresh.
The 21-year-old, that had suffered several victory near-misses before Sunday this season, and told Sky Sports F1:”There’s a little bit more confidence. You truly feel you can do it, which is great.
“The primary win always feels really far away until you get it on track. So it feels great but on the other hand I need to stay calm and as focused as I was before since the season is not ending here and you will find many, many more races and we will need to perform well for the remainder of the season.
“So I’m very focused here for Monza.”
Describing how it felt to be among two Ferrari drivers at Monza, Leclerc said it”feels fantastic” and that it was already”beyond what I ever imagined could happen to me”.
