Sebastian Vettel admits Monza is the place Ferrari has to”overdeliver” because they bid to finish their success drought in their home grand prix.
The Scuderia’s final GP success in 2010, when Fernando Alonso acquired, means they’ve gone eight races – matching their longest winless run.
But armed for the season circuit, on which automobiles average more than 160mph with the quickest car in a straight line of F1 2019, Vettel is convinced that that the winners of the week GP are ready.
“We have been on the podium a couple of times, but not at the very first step,” explained Vettel, that has finished second once and third twice at Monza since joining Ferrari four years ago.

“it is a major thing. It’s the largest race to us. It is a weekend. Yesterday we saw the passion [in an event in central Milan] that there is and I am confident that we’ll see throughout the weekend. I’m sure it’ll give a boost to us.
“Here’s the opportunity to overdeliver and it’s a major weekend. Hopefully we could make it count this time. We have a fantastic opportunity, so we’ll see. We are prepared.”
However, Vettel warned:”We aren’t the obvious favourites. There are signs of this place us in a fantastic position we conscious, but I believe we have to be realistic and optimistic.
“One lap is one thing but there are a lot of laps on Sunday. Plus, the weather – plus, plus, plus…”
Even with Ferrari enjoying a sizable edge that was qualifying at Spa over Mercedes, Charles Leclerc still ended just one second ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the end of the race – while Vettel slipped to fourth behind the Silver Arrows.
“We have seen the trend that at qualifying we appear to get a little bit of an advantage on these kinds of tracks, whereas at the race that which moves very close together,” added Vettel, who also said that Ferrari have”some details and a few answers” because of his car’s troubles at Spa.
“They [Mercedes] were really fast last weekend, therefore I hope the main challenge to be looking after the automobile and locating the correct set up and equilibrium in the vehicle to feel comfortable to extract the max. I guess it will be quite tight.”
Leclerc included:”Mercedes was quite impressive with their race pace.”
Leclerc’confident’ after win
At the circuit believed the home of the Tifosi, Leclerc arrives as a Ferrari driver to the very first time from securing his maiden Grand Prix win fresh.
The 21-year-old, who had suffered several success near-misses before Sunday this season, also told Sky Sports F1:”There’s just a bit more optimism. You truly feel now you can do it, which is good.
“The primary win always feels quite far off until you receive it on course. So it feels great but on the other hand I need to keep calm as concentrated as I was before since the time is not finish here and you will find many, many more races and we will need to carry out well for the remainder of the year.
“So I’m very focused here for Monza.”
Describing how it felt to become one of two Ferrari drivers at Monza, Leclerc stated it”feels astonishing” and it was already”beyond what I ever imagined would happen to me”.
